This department is integral to the hospital’s commitment to maternal and fetal health, offering advanced medical care supported by modern technologies and experienced healthcare professionals.

Services Offered by the Department of Obstetrics

Prenatal Care: This is a cornerstone of obstetrics, ensuring the health of the mother and the developing fetus. Regular check-ups, ultrasound scans, genetic screening, and monitoring of fetal development and maternal health are conducted throughout pregnancy.

High-Risk Pregnancy Care: Specialized care for high-risk pregnancies, including those with conditions like gestational diabetes, hypertension, or preeclampsia, and for pregnancies involving multiple births (twins, triplets, etc.).

Labor and Delivery Services: The department is equipped with state-of-the-art delivery rooms that provide a safe and comfortable environment for childbirth. Options for pain relief such as epidural anesthesia are available, and the staff is trained to handle various birthing situations, including vaginal births, induced labors, and water births.

Postpartum Care: After childbirth, the department provides comprehensive postpartum care including monitoring the mother’s recovery, breastfeeding support, and addressing any complications arising from childbirth.

Family Planning and Contraceptive Counseling: Guidance and counseling on contraception to help women make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health.

Educational Workshops and Support Groups: The hospital offers workshops on childbirth, parenting, nutrition during pregnancy, and breastfeeding, in addition to support groups for new parents.

Common Surgeries and Procedures in Obstetrics

Cesarean Section (C-Section): This surgery is performed when a vaginal birth is not possible or safe for the mother or baby. The procedure involves making an incision in the mother’s abdomen and uterus to deliver the baby.

Episiotomy: Sometimes necessary during childbirth to enlarge the vaginal opening to prevent uncontrolled tearing as the baby is born. This procedure is becoming less common as more natural tearing tends to heal better.

Dilation and Curettage (D&C): This minor surgery involves dilating the cervix and scraping the uterine lining. It is used after miscarriages to remove tissue, or to treat certain uterine conditions.

Ectopic Pregnancy Surgery: In cases where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, surgery may be required to remove the abnormal pregnancy.

Cervical Cerclage: This is a procedure used to treat cervical incompetence by closing the cervix with stitches during pregnancy to help prevent premature birth.
